Euxia was present at the latest ISPRM 2021 global physics conference held online between 12 and 15 June. Specifically, the physicist Mr. Eleftherios Stefas and his team presented the paper <>. The paper concerned the treatment of spasticity in a child with cerebral palsy.
The difference in approach involved the investigation carried out by gait analysis with electromyography in which the electrical activity of the muscles is measured. It gives information about muscle activation during the performance of complex movements and can compare the right and left hemisphere at the same time as the normal values.
This analysis revealed spasticity in the peroneals which significantly disrupted the gait pattern. It was decided to inject botulinum toxin into the specific muscles (off label) with electromyographic guidance.
The patient was then trained to walk with the F.E.S. system and 3 weeks after the injection a new gait analysis was performed with very spectacular results.
