The vascular stroke is a non-traumatic brain injury, from a blockage (ischaemic) or from a rupture of the brain vessels (haemorrhagic), which leads to neurological deficits.

This condition can cause multiple serious problems for the patient and, by extension, for the patient's family, such as:
- Loss of motor control and muscle strength (hemiplegia or hemiparesis)
- Motor coordination and balance disorders
- Sensory disorders
- Speech and communication disorders (aphasia, dysarthria)
- Swallowing disorders (dysphagia)
- Vision disorders
- Cognitive and emotional disorders
- Inability to use the upper limb
- Loss of control of the clamps
- Inability to self-care in activities of daily living, such as feeding, clothing, personal hygiene, etc.

Due to the severity and complexity of these problems, in order for the patient to be able to return home having acquired the maximum possible level of recovery and functional rehabilitation, therapeutic treatment from the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team. It is guided and coordinated by the Physiatrist and consists of various specialties (Nurses, Doctors of various specialties, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Gymnasts, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Diatologists, Orthotists).
The main advantage of the rehabilitation program, when it is carried out by the specialized team in rehabilitation center compared to any other fragmented and unilateral therapeutic intervention, is that the patient receives the appropriate treatment for each of his/her problems at the appropriate time from specialized therapists, who are in constant communication with each other under the coordination and guidance of the treating Physiatrist.
